Our evening dog sled trips are truly magical and special.
Depending on the weather, your team will drive you through the deep crisp snow, under the stars with the mountains silhouetted against the moonlight. More often than not, the northern lights will appear above you watching as you ride along on your sled. If the weather is a little wild, experience what it is like to be a true adventurer, bonding with your team as they lead you through the winding path through the woods and up onto the plain.
Parts of our trails are over steep and undulating terrain and therefor only suitable for fit adventure seekers. Two participants share a sled, alternating between mushing the sled and being a passenger.
We provide Arctic proof boots and winter clothing. However, we recommend for you to wear a good quality base layer with a woollen jumper or fleece.

Our trip starts at Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø (but we do pick up from Lauklines Kystferie on request). The drive to our camp takes about 35 minutes, where you will be greeted by our friendly staff and changed into suitable clothing before meeting your guide and the dogs.
You will receive full instructions on how to mush your team and control your sled, preparing you fully for this unique adventure. The dog sled ride will take about 2 hours*, weather dependent. On your return, you will have the opportunity to unharness your team before saying good bye to your faithful dogs. A warm camp fire will be waiting for you, around which you can sit and exchange your stories of the trip whilst eating your packed dinner along with hot beverages and biscuits.
This trip is suitable for anyone with a good fitness. We do not recommend to join the activity if you suffer from back pain, epilepsy or heart problems or in the later stages of pregnancy.
*Bare in mind that nature is unpredictable and exactly when the snows arrive will always vary a little from year to year. Dog sledding needs good quality snow, and so if we find ourselves without the appropriate conditions for sled tours, we will still be operating tours on 4-wheeled carts at our husky training area on the mainland, approximately 30 minutes drive from Tromsø centre.

BOOK NOW! By a long stretch this was the BEST experience we had in our 4 days in Tromsø. Tore and the team are brilliant and provide a fantastic opportunity for adventure. The weather was pretty poor for our experience but the kit they provided kept us toasty and Tore’s enthusiasm was infectious. Active Tromsø had gone to a lot of effort to ensure we had a great time despite the weather. They moved the location for our sled experience to higher ground to ensure reasonable snow for both us and the dogs.The dogs were all amazing and you could tell that Tore and his team care for them, raise and train them properly. This is a real hands on experience unlike others offered by larger companies. The dogs are brilliant, each with their own personality and all so very keen to run. Tore, is an incredible guide, his knowledge, his passionate enthusiasm and his open and friendly nature will have you feeling comfortable within minutes of your arrival. I have been on numerous day trips now with Tore and 3 or 4 multi day expeditions and can not get enough of these experiences. we had an amazing time with Tore and his dogs. the location is absolutely stunning and so peaceful on Kvaløya and Tore's passion, love and knowledge for his dogs and nature really shines through. We dog sledded for a couple of hours under the stars before helping with returning the dogs to their kennels. we then sat down around the fire where Tore answered all our questions. And he took a small detour on the way back to drop us off at our door, which we were so grateful for! I cannot recommend Active Tromsø enough!

What a ride!!! We loved every second of it and the most amazing thing was the passion of everyone involved. From all the guides we’ve met to Tore you could see and feel how much they live what they do and that they are one big family with all their dogs. We were able to cuddle them and spend time with them to listen to all the stories and details afterwards warmed by a pit fire. Amazing. Our favorite Norway experience

we went husky sledding today! the pick up at the radisson blue hotel was perfectly on time. after a short ride (aprox. 35 min.) we arrived at the spot where we were going to meet the dogs! after getting into proper clothing (recommended) we got a short introduction into steering the sleigh. then you go on a trip of a lifetime! we have to say it is not always easy! our sleigh tilted over on the side after getting into the deep snow. but everything is fine with the help of your teammates! after the ride you are invited to drink a warm cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. you get to hear tons of stories of the owner himself and his experiences! wonderful experience with people who love to do what they are doing!

We went for a Christmas dog sled ride and were lucky enough to have Tore as our guide. We had a fantastic time! The trail was beautiful, the dogs were amazing and Tore’s conversation and experience are unique. After the ride we were able to play with the dogs and got to meet the rest of the teams that didn’t run today. The evening ended by warming up with a hot tea by the fire where we swapped stories with Tore and heard about his travels and amazing life experience. I highly recommend Active Tromsø.

Very beautiful and unforgettable experience. We were a family of 6, none of us have previous experience in sledding. This tour is recommended if you are of average fitness and are up for a challenge. Absolutely the BEST way to experience husky sledding. The location is absolutely fantastic and the staff-Nina, and tore were very helpful and wonderful, and a special thanks to our guide Ararad who took us sledding and took care of us. What sets this tour and staff apart from the rest is that they've designed it in a way so that you are having a proper go at sledding over a long stretch of scenic location, gets you really involved. The team are seriously passionate about the dogs and sledding and they will tell you the history behind things, their own personal journey that brought them to be mushers, and it's by far the best experience to have. What an incredible experience! If you ever entertained the idea of trying sea kayaking, but had second thoughts, give this tour a chance! Our guide, Tore, was a certified instructor and he ensured we knew what to do before we set out. He was very knowledgeable and at no time did I ever feel in danger. For him safety was paramount. He was also a great story-teller and it was evident he loved his country and loved sharing it with others. The scenery was indescribably beautiful- the majestic fjord, the still green waters reflecting the mountains like a mirror, huge Norwegian jellyfish, and even a bottle nose dolphin came up for air near us. This experience of kayaking above the Arctic Circle in untouched beauty, is one I will never forget! Thank-you!

Thank you for an incredible trip and an unforgettable life experience. I'm so delighted I was able to track you down to return for a second instalment of one of the most inspiring and challenging holidays! Having been on the 6 day dog sledding expedition before I knew a little of what to expect but you took this to a whole ‘nother level with your expertise and drive to show us what was special to you. Your knowledge of this land is remarkable!As well as the scenery and camping locations you guided us to, one salient point I forgot to thank you for was creating the most graceful looking camps. Laying a trail, allowing us to sweep around to shape a gathering of people that could in fact, compliment the surrounding landscape. Just Brilliant! You took a bunch of people of different strengths and ensured you helped people at their weakest points and gave responsibility to those who wanted it. Your equipment is nothing but the best! Stylish and very comfy.... We looked good! Of course technically you cant get better for these conditions.I cant forget to mention the welcome we got on arrival, your premises is wonderful, what a phenomenal view! Such a happy welcome with a real personal and authentic approach. I can’t wait to come back next year for my 3rd instalment and bring friends. Also to try your kayaking trips in the midnight sun. I wish you guys could lead me through all my adventures!
